Connoisseurs x Bikes

Whats going on world?! We, here at Connoisseurs, have been working hard these past few days to get you guys something proper.Despite financial pains, conflicting schedules, gray hairs, laziness, and days without coco bread, our design duo have been riding bikes.

Yep, you read right! BIKES! When we’re not running 16k marathons, saving innocent lives from the h1n1, and feeding the homeless, we ride bikes in our leisure at the new DURKL office.

Okay, so maybe we were lying about the 16k and so forth but you understand…

you learn something new everyday

So I was drawing a graphic the other day when I stumbled upon this chart online, I always wondered why they picked Mars for Men and Venus for Women, when explaining what planets we were from, I also wondered where the symbols came from, now I know

AMAZING!

So I went to my High School reunion Choir concert on Saturday, at first I was bummed that I could not take part due to the overwhelming amount of work I have this summer, but after the performance, I felt more privileged to be witnessing the magic, everyone was on point and the atmosphere gave nothing but goosebumps and ecstasy, truly magnificent. I recorded a lot of the concert since most of the pictures I tried to take came out blurry. Here are the only decent few.

WORK HARD! PLAY HARD!

untitled

Allow me to get into a rant about my least favorite subject, myself. I work 12 hours a day 5 days a week, not counting the work I put in for the brand, I feel like this workaholic attitude is draining my summer so I want to do something about it. I want to see my friends more, hang out more, so if we’re friends, expect a call, or a text, or me staring at your window at 3am playing the T-pain phantom song, (j/k)

Seriously though, I need a break from the madness, why do you think I’m seeing so many concerts?? you gotta treat yourself every once in a while, you deserve it.

My man Sam also pointed out that he would love to check out more local shows/talents in the DMV area, and it sounds like something I’d be interested in.

If you take anything from this post, just be inspired to have as much fun as you work, you don’t wanna be the guy saying “I’ll rest when I retire” then  you do something stupid like Die before you retire, that would suck wouldn’t it??

Be easy family, gotta get back to work ( I haven’t had my camera in a couple of days so my posts will be lacking original imagery till i get it back, sry)

Skate: inspiration of a generation

skatercrater1976-ab

After going through countless cheesy titles such as pavement pirates, truck schmucks, rail riders, I decided to go with the one above for the duration of this post.

Skateboarding influences me a lot, heck I know very few people who it doesn’t, I don’t skate at all, I’m more of a two wheeler. I know a countless number of people who do not skate but own a countless number of skate shoes, I am one of them, and I also know a lot of “fad” skaters (the ones that called it corny up until they saw their favorite Neptune with one) . This post is not about any of those people, This post is about the skaters who embody the attitude and live the lifestyle. This post is about the guys and gals who don’t have to say a word to let you know where their passion lies, their whole being subtly screams (oxymoron??) “I’M A SKATER” without them uttering a single word. These are the skaters who I enjoy and follow.

As far back as the 50’s pavement surfing (crap I should have used that as the title, pavement surfers! genius, okay I’ll get back to the post now) has seeped into the veins of the youth making them daredevils on a board with 4 wheels.

The mentality of skaters is very intriguing, the “never give up on a trick” vibe or the ” get the hell up and do it again” attitude   they embody also inspires me. Skater fashion (lol skate and fashion lol, lol, lol)  I laugh because in the beginning and now, core skaters did not wear what they wore for fashion, they wore it for the comfort and the ease at which it would be to skate in. I often make the joke that if skaters wore Dresses and Goadome boots to skate, everyone would be doing it by now.

Skateboarding grips my attention very often, the only other things that have greater magnetic powers are biking, God, women, and Michael Jordan…Jackson too. I find myself watching hours of videos, never to learn the tricks, but simply to admire them, to be able to identify them amongst the masses. In a world where skaters are no longer known for their attire (since everyone dresses like one these days) It is refreshing for me to be able to spot a core skater when I walk past them on the street and give them a nod salute, they often nod back, no words needed amongst children of a common entity.

I don’t know how exactly to end this post, maybe just tell you this is the end, or reiterate how much I love skateboarding, or just say God bless, either way I hope you enjoyed the read, leave comments on your opinions if you like, until next time compadres.

Try again

Anticipation is killing me!!

mos-def-the-ecstatic

JUNE 9th is drawing closer people!!!! JUNE 9th is upon us!

What is happening on June 9th? THE ECSTATIC that’s what!!!

THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BLACK DANTE, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOGIE MAN

this album has features with Slick Rick, Talib Kweli, Black Thought, Jay Electronica and even beats from J Dilla can you say greatness??? (greatness!!!)

I missed the listening even at commonwealth this past June 1 on purpose because I don’t get first listens to my albums with crowds. It’s a more personal process, me and my big Sony studio headphones just absorbing.

(I realized that my references to “black dante” and “the most beautiful boogie man” don’t exactly tell you whose album this is, I apologize familia, it’s Mos Def!!)
